The Real Reasons I Blog

1. To ward off dementia.

2. Stay in touch with my roots. No such thing as overworking with Koreans. Rest? Psh. That’s what the grave is for.

3. You’ve saved me money on therapy. I didn’t have to go this year.

4. I don’t want to clean. Who in their right mind would choose mopping and dusting over THIS?

5. It’s my one rightful obsession. I don’t drink, smoke, go on shopping sprees, or get pedicures. You gotta give me sOmething.

6. I can be as anal as I want and people like me for it. Go figure.

7. I’m repressed. Parents didn’t let me stay out at night. I get to party ’round the clock as the comments roll in.

8. I hand out advice on stuff: blogging, life, men and women. And all these people think I’m for real.

9. It’s my only chance at keeping up with technology. I’m terrified to tweet, annoyed with Facebook, have yet to go near an iPod, hate texting.

10. I haven’t had this much fun since…since…
*Slump* Pathetic. (Time for my next pick-me-up post.)

  1. Diana I kind of feel the same as L here. I am sorry for not catching up on your numerous thrilling posts. Number 4 resonates deeply within. There isn a strong connection between me and that reason. I was thinking the same thing about number 8. I guess it is what has kept me going, you know?

    1. So very sweet of you to say and so, Karen. Visit was my pleasure and thank you for the follow. I’m thankful for the connection and look fwd to sharing our journey together in the coming year.

      Blessings,
      Diana

  2. Numbers 8 & 9 are my faves. Wish I could get rid of Facebook altogether but I fear if I do the world will come to an end. Even though I rarely post anything I just need to hold onto it like a safety blanket. And Twitter…I’m still trying to figure it out, go figure.

      1. You bet! You know – I’ve lived on 3 continents now (spent my childhood in Africa) then India and now the UK. And all I see are the similarities as human beings, as opposed to differences, which are soooo superficial anyways! The same joys and pain drive us. As parents, children and most of all as human beings. I guess I’ve digressed a little – but in the light of all the painful aggression that is happening worldwide, it is ever more important that we inhabit one planet and more things join us than separate us.

  3. AHHHHHHHHH ha ha ha numbers three and four. Totally. I did clean half our bedroom today…Hubby was getting annoyed at tripping over stuff. So that bought me at least three weeks of blog time…

      1. Thank you! I like interacting. 🙂 Yes, it was definitely a major cleaning…since Christmas, our room has become a catch-all. Sort of ridiculous, really. My friend’s grandparents called their basement (with ping-pong table) the “rec room.” I have renamed our bedroom the wreck room.

    1. The hard-nosed fastidiousness is something guests have experienced more than anyone (in the edits, eh hem). =) The second person who’s really had to deal with it is myself, in the ruthless self-edits and standards I hold up for myself. But it turns out for good so it’s awesome to be putting my best and worst self to use here!

      1. Yes, in spite of the worst, honesty in writing turns out for the best and that’s why I (we) enjoy reading you. Then again, I could also be speaking for myself.

  4. Therapy IS expensive. Dementia…yes, I’m all for putting that off for awhile. I do agree this is the most social of social media and I don’t care to take on any other technology other than my “smart” phone…but I will admit to texting on occasion. (You don’t think I actually CALL anyone with the phone…)

  5. All of the points resonated with me, D. Blogging IS fun. Any. Time. Of. The. Day. It’s something that doesn’t put me to sleep but energises me. Which is why its dangerous to blog late at night…at least for me.

  6. Here! Here! On the housework front. Why dust and clean out cupboards when you can share stories with nice people.
Tweeting is terrifying, isn’t it? I signed up the other day and still haven’t dipped mu toe in – mainly for fear of having it bitten off by trolls!
I have another reason to blog too – it ‘warms me up’ for my ‘proper writing’. That’s what I tell myself as I read yet another blog post …

  7. Diana you must get a certain kick out of all these comments you receive from all over the world. Thats one reason I keep coming back to writing new posts. To meet and greet people from places I will never get too. If only in my dreams.

  8. I love your list! and your humor! I have found that You are so refreshingly honest! Me–my writing–is stifled lately—because I am not as open as I was when I began…the anonymity helped me to be more honest…strange, I guess. In any case, I am happy to have discovered YOU!

  9. Excellent post, but I probably couldn’t tell you exactly why. Fortunately, you are not going to make me tell you … All of the reasons are good, but this one stood out: “I hand out advice on stuff: blogging, life, men and women. And all these people think I’m for real.” Later.

    1. So sweet. =) A ray of sun on a rough morning. The secret is I actually ventured out on Twitterland this summer but had NO time to build it. I’ve barely had time to blog…and the Holistic Journey trumps all other social media. =) Thx for being here.

  10. I agree. I had gotten off Facebook and Twitter. Annoys me how everyone’s on FB – when they’re at work, especially. Twitter…what’s up with the limit of characters to post a status? Odd.

    1. Boy, I come here to visit so often, I didn’t realize that I wasn’t following you already! Will follow today, chickie. You have a swell weekend and Sabbath day!

    2. “Twitter…what’s up with the limit of characters” Eh. Suits the postmodern attention span. =) Unless you’re glued to your screen 24/7 (a pretty sad existence), I don’t see how you can be effective on any one platform if you dilute yourself. Thx for the support. =)

      Diana

  11. I love Tweeting and Facebook once I’d blocked friends and family or anyone who posted Islamophobia or joined UKIP or Britain First, and I made it clear I was 110% for Jeremy Corbyn and Labour. It’s changed my life. Great blog. Love your work.
