1. Thou shalt not waste readers’ time. Offer up thy readers a worthy sacrifice that they might take and leave satisfied.

2. Thou shalt honor thy muse. Be prepared in season, out of season to seize inspiration when she comes that ye might write, dance, photograph, paint thy bliss. Be not caught without thy scroll, ink, pen, iGadget, camera. Thou shalt not redeem the moment the locust has eaten.

3. Thou shalt preview thy draft and spell-check before publishing that the Angel of Vengeance shall not fly over thy blog in the night.10commandmts2

4. Always speak ye the truth.

5. Thou shalt not take up the like button in vain, foremost on this blog. It is holystic ground. Thou shalt in integrity read the posts before clicking anything lest thou incite my wrath. Know ye that I see thou couldst not have read four brain-intensive posts in one minute. I be no fool. I do not need dross. Go ye find something better to do, ye bored soul.

6. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s likes, nor his comments, nor her following, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor’s.

7. Thou shalt honor thy active supporters as ye best is able. It will go well with thee and thou shalt live long in blogosphere.

8. Go ye forth and support five new bloggers this day. Show unto them kindness. Thy blog shall also be fruitful and multiply.

9. Thou shalt count the cost of brain wear-and-tear and the bloody battle against time. Be ye a good soldier of blogosphere. To blog is to accept a high calling.

10. Thou shalt refrain from grumbling when Holistic Wayfarer tarries in her visit. She is likely beset in the wayfaring, climbing cybermountains, crossing desert valleys, caught in a maelstrom of words. Forget not that she also teaches her boy how to write that he might grow up to be a mighty holistic blogger.

  1. I think I’ve broken all of them at least once today. Oh dear! 🙂

    1. Thine honesty saves thee. Grace covers even the most reprobate of bloggers. Repent! The Kingdom of Truth is at hand.

  2. Whatest if-ef I-est usef mis-spellings and poor grammer for-est comedic sakest?

    1. IF thou hast remained faithful in the other commandments, thou mayest take delight in the living word thy God hast given thee and marry it with the joy of laughter. But in integrity knowest for thyself the difference between thy jest and the True Way of the Word.

Or I shall unleash the Angel when thou least expecteth.

      1. Thank you so much for that response. You truly are amazing. Doen’t you worry, when writing scripts or blogs, all my ‘mistakes’ are intenshunal. Btw, thought of you when writing my post today, I almost wrote it as a poem.

      2. I would expect nothing less than intentional mistakes from a devoted member of this Fellowship, an Emmy winner no less.

      3. Hey, that’s a 6-time Emmy winner. 😉Haha. I’ve actually been nominated twice for my writing (with one win). You probably wouldn’t like my scripts though, as they are written like people talk, and not grammatically correct.

      4. Thou knowest not her whom thy follow. Dost thy really think I believe grammar is what TV audiences – and therefore writers and producers – careth about? In my last poem I did say I would pen the vernacular of city streets.

      5. Apologies, my lady. I overstepped my assumptions. Twont happen again.

      6. Did thou findest thy error?

        =)

      7. Hey, sorry, I’m been out running with friends. Will check as soon as I get back (and stop sweating). 😀

  3. Well said! I shall strive to keep these commandments!

    1. Go therefore and be blessed in thy blogging.

      1. Love it!

  4. I’ve been away from others’ blogs for a couple days, so am trying to catch up quickly by scanning and skimming. But this one made me stop, read, ponder, nod, read again, laugh, agree … and comment. Well said.

    1. I got it: thou honored the fifth commandment. Thou didst not put up the like in vain. I thank thee for thy time. Go blog in peace.

      1. I’m so glad you understood. You are most welcome!

  5. Nice one! Enjoyed a lot & had a good laughter!

    1. I am pleased thou readst with mirth and pleasure.

  6. Alas, occasionally we stumble and err. LOL!

    1. I thank thee.

      =)

      1. Sure! No problem 🙂

    2. And I thank thee for the follow. Welcome to this special community.

      1. You’re welcome, too.

  7. Hahahaha. Great post Diana. I especially like number 5.

    1. I know thy hast kept that commandment faithfully, O Sister. May the Sun light thy blogging this day.

      1. Ugh, I’ve been without internet since Friday afternoon. I’m still without it. Trying to get it fixed. I’m at hubby’s office right now trying to catch up.
You’re sooooo funny Diana. And may the “Sun” light thy blogging for you too.
        🙂

      2. I was in the middle of the next Race submission, had just emailed with the blogger, when the computer DIED this wknd. Went to heaven. I wasn’t happy for it, as selfish as I am. I kept wacking the CPU, hoping to revive it. Hubby set me up on a laptop – which I don’t like to use – and has been rebuilding the computer all wknd. Gave it a heart and brain transplant.

We live at the mercy of screen, lights, buttons.

      3. Argh! Gotta love technology complications eh.
So glad your computer has fresh new transplants. Poor hubby though. All weekend?
        🙂

      4. Yep. And last night’s test drive was awesome. Only I found myself glaring at the monitor this morning. Lost that sacred private time on the blog while T was still asleep. Uncooperative monitor finally woke up – here I am.

      5. Oh, I feel for you. I so appreciate those sacred private times.
        🙂

  8. I especially like #4!

    1. Thy confession revealeth a soul with integrity.

  9. Epic…for my “Muse”, has also been the source of my pain, joy, confusion, and anger…how does one become inspired and stay true when dealing with such demons /sigh…

    1. I wonder if this post will shed any light:

      http://holisticwayfarer.com/2013/05/20/the-writing-process-color-part-1/

      Appreciate the follow. Welcome!

      HW

  10. Ha! Well spake, Diana. I appreciate the humor, creativity, and generosity, O Great Blogger. xoxo

    1. I have appreciated thy fellow sojourning, Great Dancer. Go forth and sing the praises of living with thy feet.

      HW

  11. # 5 just cracked me up.

I’m guilty of poor editing. Sometimes no matter how much I review and try to edit, I still commit grammatical and spelling sins.

    1. Oh, and this was a really fun post!

Thanks for the smiles…and the LOLs.

      1. You don’t know how endeared I am – with respect – for the strength you smile and laugh with after the week you’ve had.

        You just awesome, girl.

      2. Aw, thanks, HW.

I am a tough one to make laugh, so the fact that you did speaks volumes to me about your charming ways with words. You just as awesome, too!

I will share my transcendent moments of that week, too, when I spent time immersing myself in Nature to balance out the poignancy of our goodbye.

      3. After some thought, I realized what I respected about you – how you shone – on this post was the self-pity you denied when I know it is still far from easy and your new normal has only just begun. You chose instead GRATITUDE, which enabled you, freed you to laugh. Even in loss.

        INSPIRATIONAL, Casey.

    2. Thy confession of fallibility wins my heart, dear blogger. It wast carelessness I was addressing. Go blog in peace. May the Sun of grace light thy words.

      1. I will…

        And soon.

Can’t wait to show you the pictures I have to show you.

Been trying to play real world catch up…

  12. Reblogged this on KenMaursCorner and commented:
With thanks to Holistic Wayfarer for allowing me to share her thoughts.

  13. Bless me for I have sinned…..I liked this posting so much that I HAD to reblog on mine own blog

    1. No human being remaineth infallible. I am pleased to bring you light and mirth. I thank thee for the reblog and faithful support.

I shall visit soon when time alloweth.

  14. funny and true … each point well worthy of consideration … I do wish I could find 5 new bloggers everyday … but yesterday I did find two 🙂

    1. Dost thou use the Reader?

      1. I do, that is how I found the two new ones … clicking on ‘happiness’ in the reader 😀

  15. No pretence, I’ve read every word and laughed ★

    1. I honor those who honoreth me, O Gypsy. Thou integrity guardeth thee. Blog thou with joy and passion.

  16. Good wee post. I haven’t been on in a week. Sorry for late response.

    1. I had numbered thee among the faithful. Thou humble undue apology is noted. Blog in peace.

  17. Love the bit about liking in less than a minute! So true.

  18. I’m liking several, with 4 & 5 for sure.

    1. Thou preferences revealeth am honorable spirit,

  19. Commandment number 5 had me in stitches! Oh, but so true.
I honour commandment number 2 and keep it holy. Some of my best writing originated from scribbles on post-its, illegible things I penned, mid-cooking, mid-driving, mid-listening to the CEO during the company meeting.

    1. Thou hast composed just as I have. Mid-everything.

      Mid-listening in meetings. LOLeth.

  20. Cute… I shall agree…

    1. Thou dost well to agree. May the Sun continue to shine on thy blogging.

  21. A very useful tickle for the brain, even unto making us all a bit smarter. Hallelujah and amen!

  22. Ye shall not add commandments to this list 🙂 You forgot to mention that.

    1. Funny thou sayest that. Because I am considering a sequel, though that maketh a whole lotta commandments LOL.

  23. I really enjoyed reading this :D.

    1. I thank thee, SCC. I am pleased it wast a glad visit.

  24. These should be carved on stone tablets and hung by the large rock which we push aside to enter the holistic cave known as the blogosphere. Wisdom and truth for fellow wayfarers.
I follow every commandment. I promise. No really I do…almost always…well, there was that one time…
    🙂

    1. Be ye without fault, O blogger. No sin lieth beyond redemption.

  25. That is so good, and funny too. Thank you for visiting my blog, much appreciated.

    1. I thank thee for the follow. Welcome to this fellowship. Thy seat hast your name, straight down the aisle to the right.

      1. Thank you, I shall be in my seat very shortly!

  26. Very nice! We especially like no 5 about the “Like” button . And thanks for liking our post about Gertrude Stein and Hemingway -there’s more to come about Gertude Stein later this week.

  27. Oh I’m printing this out and putting on the board over my desk – it’s wonderful and so clever.

  28. Reblogged this on Mazdboss's Blog and commented:
    Awesomeness! <3

  29. I just dropped by to visit and noticed I hadn’t seen this post. I have to say I do love it and wonder how many of us are licking our wounds. 🙂 Great post and eye-opener. Unfortunately, many do skim through blogs because time is short for many. But I have to agree with you Diana, if we are being honest, we should all take the time to read when we visit, and if we find there isn’t adequate time, then don’t hit ‘like’ for the sake of appearing as though you have ‘shown up’.

I make it a point to visit blog posts I enjoy most, at least once a week. I sometimes find (like now) that I have missed an occasional post by my favorite bloggers, and eventually I catch up with them when I have time to read and comment. Excellent and informative post as always. 🙂
(PS – I read your last comment to me and I am glad there is resolution and I ‘deleted’) 🙂

    1. As I’ve expressed, I have appreciated your keeping up and leaving generous feedback. This is no boast but realistically, the volume of likes and comments on this blog does not make it possible for me to visit everyone back as often as I would love to. There simply isn’t enough of me to go around and not enough hours in my day. I stepped away from this comment three times in the last hour to teach and tend to my boy. And this is just one reply I am attempting! Hence the 10th commandment. Thanks for staying close, Deb.

      Love,
      Diana

      1. Thanks Diana. Like I said, I know we don’t have time to visit everywhere, so I appreciate your time. 🙂 xo

  30. Love your sense of humour, even to giving me a dark comments box to fill in. You started my day with a good laugh. Thanks for dropping by again.

    1. I am pleased thou canst start thy day in mirth. Blessings.

      HW

      1. Hi, taking you at you commandments, now see what I have done. Liked two and followed another two today! What a lot of reading I shall have, hope it is good. Thanks.

      2. Thine integrity and kindness in cyberspace shalt bless thee. Enjoy the fruit of thy labors. And I thank thee thy follow. HW

  31. Thou speakest with truth that lies deep within thou soul. One thing I request humbly of thee; all these I have kept since mine youth, what is it that I still lack that mine ways be prosperous from henceforth?

    1. Go sell all thy possessions and give to the poor. That ye may have treasure in heaven. If that doth not bring you more riches in followers, go ye forth and socialize more. Double, triple thy tithing and support 10, 15 new bloggers this day. And watch heaven part and the blessings fall. But always, give

      without expectation of return.
      That is the Holistic way.

      1. I see. The instruction thou hast given shall be heeded and followed. Gratitude for thine wisdom.

  32. Much gratitude for sharing thine excellent humor… it is indeed a struggle to keep those locusts from eating the moments!

  33. After reading this article, I realized just how special one of your “likes” really is. Thanks for giving me more to think about.

  34. High standards there, HW, and glad to see them. You have an interesting angle and a great sense of humor. I look forward to reading more of your work. Oh, and thanks for stopping by my blog!

    1. Thanks for the kind word and pledge of return, S. =)

  35. I had no clue we where ten commandments for blogging…..I promise I´ll try as hard as I can to stick with them. Sort off anyways, I´m not perfect.

This was a cool post with great message to it.

    1. I bless thee for thy humble reading. Go forth and blog in peace.

      1. I shall go to thee and write in me with words of praise in my blog of peace.

  36. Gee whiz, you have got so many followers. How do you keep up with your blog? I like the 10 rules of blogging very much. Granted I only read the posts that I feel are relevant to me but when I read selected posts that you have written, I always gain something of value.

    1. ThAt is the million-dollar question, Yvonne. Why I write on the s tr u gg les of an artist-mother, why there is no way I can visit everyone back promptly. It takes me a good two hrs to get back to the comments after a post. I appreciate knowing you can always take something away when you visit – nothing less, my goal.

      Hug,
      Diana

  38. Madam Wayfarer,
I did enjoy this read most substantially!
    Splendid!
Truth and giggles in one swoop. Brilliant stuff 😀

  39. Great piece of work here. 10 rules I will always try to blog by. I had to press like. I was apprehensive at first, I did not take it up in vain. 😉

    1. Thy LIKE is received with pleasure.

  40. Loved your commandments – witty, insightful and respectful of your fellow bloggers.

    1. I appreciate thy time. Go blog in peace and joy this day.

  41. I shall try no to look at the like button before spendeth me 15mins staring at your post.

    Very nice, ma’am 🙂
I hope your kid is doing good.

    1. I was positive I replied to this comment. My child fareth wonderfully (drumming his heart outest at the moment) and thy fresh resolve bless thee in the world of blogging.

  42. Ha! Love this. I am most guilty of taking up the “like” button in vain and of coveting asses. But I am quick to confess, so that’s gotta count for something.

    1. Indeed the confession counteth. But go and sin no more – at least on this blog.

  43. […] The Ten Commandments of Blogging. […]

  44. Yup, I’ve broken maybe 1 or 2, or 10 of these commandments 🙂
You are hilarious. Later Moses, oops, I mean Holistic Wayfarer!

    1. Thy penitence rewards thee (though I hear not penitence in the honesty).

  45. Amen to Commandment #5.

    1. I bless thee in thy convictions.

      1. I enjoyed this excellent and wise post! Thanks for liking my post too.

  46. Just sighted this… edified by listening to your sermon on cyber mount . may god bless your way forward diana…

    1. It pleaseth me that thou werest edified. Go blog in peace.

  47. This is awesome. I had saw this when I started off blogging my posts would have been more well planned out. Now that I have seen these commandments. I take my blogging more seriously. Especially the first one. So thanks!

    1. =) Great. What a great thing to hear, F.

      HW

      1. 🙂
