It’s the greatest, most unassuming symphony, the human body at work. We make about two million new red blood cells every second, replace our stomach lining every two to nine days, can regrow a quarter of our liver to full size in weeks. A quadrillion (1015) DNA repairs heal the tens of thousands of lesions that blight our cells every day. In continual overhaul, we literally, viscerally embody death and rebirth, faithfully shedding in the deepest places what do not serve us. We even trade in our skeleton every 10 years with bones that had renewed at a rate of 10% a year. Maybe this is why we often take stock every birthday decade, prompted by more than rising digits. Even as the color of our hair and the strength of our skin surrender to time, we are given a new framework to build the next decade upon and to stand a little taller.

In triumph over a willful winter, the Georgian spring here beckons, the landscape outside and in my mind flush with green and promise. And so I release all that keeps me from the best version of myself. I will rewrite this page in ten years or less because to hope, to reach is to change. And change is the journey.

  4. I am pleased to have a few things in common. BUT I haven’t always looked for God’s handprints on everything. I sum up my 70 years with the poem written by Francis Thompson (1859–1907)
It’s called the Hound of Heaven and I’ll only quote the first five lines. The rest is worth looking at. Ask Mr Google to let you see it.

    I FLED Him, down the nights and down the days;
    I fled Him, down the arches of the years;
I fled Him, down the labyrinthine ways
Of my own mind; and in the mist of tears
I hid from Him, and under running laughter.

    1. I am familiar with the poem. =) Do you know the background story of the poet? Thank you for the follow. It’s an amazing community of thinkers you’ve joined.

  12. Hello Diana,

Stumbled onto your blog by chance….but choice shall get me coming back here for sure!

You have a way with words… And I am also trying to be the “best darned mom I know how”…a new one at that…

So that gives me two reasons to follow the blog….good enough I say!

    1. Thx for the warm intro. =) Congrats on the new motherhood! Boy, are you in for a ride. Entirely transformative, isn’t it? I appreciate the pledge of support. Welcome to this awesome community of thinkers. I look fwd to my visit.

  13. I’m at a spot in my life where a blog that started out about milestones in my life, like your blog, has morphed into something different. It seems that I was trying to use my words to persuade “my demographic” to not see my friend Z as a threat. I want the world to see her as a human with worth and rights. As that happened, I meet a co-worker, Cassie, that is a young person I would be proud to have as a daughter. Now, my words are trying to make her world better, too. Interaction, during that process, means much. Thanks for yours. I’ll follow and look forward to your blog, too.

    1. Wonderful how your blogging has evolved. Welcome to this amazing community of thinkers! Thx for the support.

      HW

      1. You are very welcome. Thanks for your interaction, too.

    1. You have some meaningful things up. Thanks so much for the warm greeting and follow. It is so nice to get a more up-close picture of bloggers. It’s a tremendous thing you did for your mother. 22. You write solid, fairly lyrical prose. I’m glad I had a chance to read this page. Some reflections on motherhood from your current post-motherist persective (sorry for the pun) would be something I’d enjoy reading. Would you mind linking me to your own favorite post on that topic so I’m not hunting in your archives?

    1. Thank you so much for the follow. Welcome to this amazing community of thinkers. (I have an interview of OM from last year if you haven’t seen and it interests. =) )

  23. Good piece. Motherhood consumed me too. It does this (or we let it). Thanks for stopping by my blog too! Have a great day!

    1. Thx for sharing how you connected with this, Connie. It sure is a tough balancing act. To balance almost seems to mean being selfish.

  33. Your almost stream-of-consciousness style, especially about the challenges of motherhood, are engaging! Though fraught with reality. I used to wonder–many years ago when I was mothering–whether anyone out there felt even a fraction of the storm that raged inside me and sometimes erupted. Only one chance. One time through. On this side, I couldn’t be happier with the adult relationship I have with each of my two children. I also wonder whether it had to be so difficult. Motherhood is sadly under-rated and over-glorified. Thanks for telling it like it is! And thanks, too, for visiting my blog and leaving your footprint.
    Elouise

    1. “I also wonder whether it had to be so difficult.”

Mmm. My thought for the day, thanks. I do believe we impose burdens on ourselves along the way. Thank you for connecting so warmly, Elouise. Wonderful to hear of your relationships with your grown kids.

      Diana

      1. For me personally, I know it didn’t have to be so difficult. My biggest burden was fear of asking for help–from safe people, of course, who wouldn’t start giving me easy answers or mini-sermons. I already knew all that….What I didn’t know was myself–or who might actually help me. I can only imagine the challenge of being a parent in 2014. Thanks again!
        Elouise

      2. I appreciate every bit of wisdom. =)

  34. Thanks for your visit and connecting me to your site diana . pleasure meeting you through your word pictures . parenting is a concern we seem to share . do keep connecting…

    1. Appreciate the stop-in, R. =)

      Diana

  35. Just beautiful Diana… 😉
    All the best to you!

  36. Thank you for stopping by my blog, it led me to yours and I realised I’ve seen a comment of yours on one of the blogs I follow but can’t remember whose. I’ve read two of your posts and now following. Warm regards.

    1. Appreciate the kind greeting. Welcome to A Holistic Journey.

      Onward and upward,
      Diana

      1. I admire your honesty, arare quality when anyone talks about being a woman and mother. And thanks for liking my post

      2. Actually, the honesty is something I’ve been wrestling w/ (kicking myself for) the last three days. Gets me in trouble at times. Husband says I need to tone it down. Not everyone wants to hear it.

I really needed the encouragement this moment. Thanks so much. Visit was my pleasure.

        Diana

      3. Keep on being your authentic self, Diana. The world needs more people like you. All the best to you in your explorations of life

  37. Such a heart felt story open and honest. I am embarking on what it means to begin a new chapter in my life as my children are now grown and making their way in life. Thanks for sharing and for stopping by and liking one of my post.

    1. Appreciate your connecting as you have, Larry. A special season you are setting out on. Blessings,

      Diana

  38. Everybody is busy. With their own drama.

    Tue that.

  39. Thank you for dropping by my site. Appreciate your comments.

    1. My pleasure. Thx for chkg in.

  40. I am so glad that you found your ability to breathe! God has a way of bringing us to a point inwardly where we come to a realization that we can breathe. Write whatever He puts on your heart as that is what He want the rest of us to see, hear, know, learn, be exposed to, whatever it may be, He has his reasons and you are His vessel! I admire that!

    God’s richest blessings,
    Rhonda aka nanarhonda

    1. So sweet. Thank you for the generous encouragement, Rhonda. And thank you for the follow. Welcome to this rich community of thinkers.

      Warmly,
      Diana

  41. Well deserved after reading your bio! Thank you for stopping by my blog as well! I am so glad that you were generously encouraged as that means the words that God put on my heart went directly to yours! Thank you for the warm welcome to this rich community of thinkers! (Though I tend to be a talker!) God bless, Rhonda aka nanarhonda

    1. Ha ha great: keep talkin’. ‘S what the treasury of feedback is for. =) Keeps readers on my radar, too. Thankful we connected, Rhonda. Hope you continue to enjoy my work, a labor of love.

      Diana

  42. I will continue to to enjoy your work! My daughter is raising 7 children (had 8, 1 with Jesus) and she home schools them all. She is amazing to me. My son has 2 children and they go to public school. It is an interesting paradox. I know your work is a labor of love, Diana. That is why I am following you!

    1. Interesting. I am floored by women who homeschool a flock. Many of them out there. When you tap any title, you open up not only the post but the sidebar that lists My Topics. I have posts on learning and the writing process that homeschoolers have found helpful. Hope you don’t mind my sharing this. Parents and educators loved it – and categorically agreed with the study I cited. Hope you enjoy, R.

  44. Thank you, Diana! I’m sure she will be blessed by it as will i! thank you! Her children range in age from 14yrs old to 6 mo old! A quiverful to be sure!

Thank you very much for pointing me in the direction of your homeschooling articles. My daughter is also a very well written author but doesn’t have time anymore to write. But I have many of her articles that she wrote on my ministry site before it went down. When I can get it back up under another extension that I can afford, I will give you the link. She was well read by people all over the world. (I put the tracker on her pages.)

You are so very kind, Diana, thank you very much!

    Abundant blessing in His Name,
    Rhonda aka nanarhonda

  45. Very nice introduction. Proud to meet you. If you liked the review perhaps you would like a free copy of the audiobook. It is an email request away.

    1. Appreciate the kind greeting, Hubert. If you peeked at the home page you would get an idea as to how swamped I am on this blog. I am barely able to catch up on my life outside the blog. Keep writing. =) And welcome to this rich community of artists and thinkers.

  46. Hello Diana! Thank you for liking my poem “In the Shadow of His Wings.” I’m delighted to have found your blog! The joy of your spirit shines through in each of your words. By the way, I was homeschooled in a Christian household. It’s a pleasure to meet someone who is also homeschooling her children and pouring so much love and devotion into her family. 🙂 May God bless you in every step of your journey!
    In Him,
    Katrina

    1. Appreciate the warm greeting, Katrina. That is wonderful to know; did you go all way through high school in the home education? I trust you enjoyed it? It is a very good poem. I appreciated the reverence and care that were evident.

      Diana

      1. Yes, I was homeschooled K-12. It was definitely the best experience of my life! I can honestly say it was through home education that I got to know Jesus on a personal level and was able to let Him mold me. I am now a sophomore in college with many dreams ahead. 🙂

        Katrina

      2. ROckin’!

        Onward and upward,
        Diana

  47. Hi Diana….thank you for following my blog…love yours! Very insightful……

    PS…love your name too! 🙂

    1. My pleasure. Thanks for reciprocating, Diana. 😉

  48. So very glad you do “speak of it all” just think who might of missed some very beneficial and life changing words had you stuck only to parenting and the holistic life. I’m sure you already knew that though ;)… I didn’t see the original post date and there are so many comments and even less time for me before I must get ready for work. I ask because I was curious if you update your “about”.. or if you are older now. I smiled as I remembered that nostalgic longing for the past I felt as I read your first paragraph. It does go away, thankfully! What it is replaced with is, well, maybe a second childhood. While we are probably very close to the same age (I’m 45), we’ve lived in reverse as adults. I envy and admire all that you’ve taken in and the proper way you did it, in reference to the fact that while you were taking on the world I was taking on toddlers. I always preached to anyone that would listen to wait for children until after your 30.. (hmm.. new post? Hold on gotta do a quick draft 😉 ). Thankfully my biggest fears were not realized as my children did not completely repeat my mistakes. Both are in their 20’s and the oldest was 25 when the grandbaby was born, and I only have one of those. I am so immersed now in this blogosphere trying to absorb all that is out there.. I cannot imagine how you do it without spending your entire day on it. These days end so quickly now and I haven’t even found time to visit my favorite pages and read more inspiring things, and I’m trying to find that balance. Thank you again for the post that I find so hard to read because its so near and dear to my sore spots.. but again, lifechanging. Have a great day Diana.

    1. I have barely touched this page since loading it a year-and-a-half ago when I launched A Holistic Journey. =) Love hearing of your own journey and getting better acquainted, L.
